A talk by Ron Holland
Fresh from receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Boat International Design and Innovation Awards “honouring a designer who has made an indelible impression on the yachting industry” Ron will be making one of his rare visits to the UK in May and, having many friends at Warsash Sailing Club, has offered to give a talk.
As members will recall from his last presentation at the Club, some years ago, (‘From quarter-tonners to Mirabella V’) Ron is a brilliant storyteller, having designed, and raced on, many very famous boats during his illustrious career.
The Boat International website alone features some 70 of his designs.
These include raceboats such as Golden Apple and Morning Cloud as well as many maxi and superyachts such as Condor, Kialoa, Whirlwind XII and Mirabella V, now M5 (an incredible 246ft sloop) to name but a very few.
Though originating from Auckland Ron founded his design studio in Ireland opposite the world’s oldest yacht club, the Royal Cork, and it was in 2011 that he moved to Vancouver where he now lives.
Ron will undoubtedly be discussing his latest book, All the Oceans, which several members who already have it, agree is an absolutely fascinating and entertaining read.
Ron’s last talk at the Club resulted in ‘standing room only’ so it is probably advisable to book a table if you wish to have supper. Contact: Jack@tmscatering.com.
